Julia was a lecturer at California State University East Bay (CSUEB) for two years before being hired as a tenure-track professor in 2007. Her path from graduate school to teaching was not a straight line.
After graduate school, Julia worked in industry, including a 10-year span at SRI (formerly Stanford Research Institute) where she was part of a team on Active Noise Control applications. In 1998 she switched gears from industry to stay at home and start a math tutoring business, plus do substitute teaching at elementary, middle and high school in Castro Valley. Her tutoring business has continued into its second decade.
Eventually, Julia decided that teaching was her new love, and that college was the right level for her, and so she pursued a lecturer position at CSUEB in 2005. She has been at the University ever since, now as a full-time tenure-track professor.
